Project 6: C4 live brief

A different mask

The idea behind the film:
There are many different types of masks and we use them to change our appearance; to enhance it or to make it worse, to hide what we really are or feel or to become someone we are not. The meaning behind a mask can be both literary and metaphorical and in the film both are used to show how a person can hide behind a fake face or mask. We live in a world with big diversities; were some people struggle to get food on the table and others strive to live the perfect happy life. Striving to live a perfect life can make us superficial and hide our true selves. We take on a mask to create a fake facade were we disguise our true feelings and emotions and pretend that our life is flawless.  Showing how a mask can be used differently as a costume or a façade in someone’s life is what I want to communicate through my film.

The storyline:

Short footage of different people taking on their masks: there is no talking, only music:
- Circus clown putting on face paint
- A model getting her makeup done before a photo-shoot
- A girl putting on her masquerade mask
- A man putting on his Santa mask
- Kids putting on their Halloween masks
and finally:
- a normal person who looks depressed taking on a “happy smile” mask before walking out the door on his/her way to work.

The music in the background could be like a merry-go-round tune with increasing intensity until the footage of the last person, when the music stops.

Project 7: A0 kimono

For our 7th project we had to design a very different looking kimono from the traditional one. I made several tiny sketches and eventually chose to make a lung kimono. I wanted to make something completely different from anyone else's, so thats why I ended up with that idea. At first I wanted to make only the lungs, but added some organs as well to make the in design a realistic size. I then changed my mind and made the lungs with a skeleton in an ex-ray style. I spent a lot of time creating the final design in Illustrator, but I was really happy with the outcome.

Project 4: Meet me on the corner

For the 4th project we made a map of relevant and interesting places in London. We actually had to go to 40 different places and document in different and creative ways that we had been there. Later on we had to create a map that did not look like a traditional map, using the information that we had gathered. I chose to create a circle map, including text, pictures and drawings. The map is made pretty acurate so you can actually follow the directions on the map.

This image shows how I divided the map into the different parts of the circle
